About
Joseph is a London and Manchester based tenor whose work brings together professional performance, ensemble singing, and music education. He is a regular member of Apollo5 and Director of The Mancunium Consort, and has built a varied career across concert performance, workshop leading, and vocal outreach.
Joseph studied at Chetham’s School of Music, where he learned piano, trumpet, and voice, before continuing his training at the Royal Northern College of Music. He was taught there by Paul Nilon and graduated with a first-class degree. He now lives in London and leads a busy career freelancing and touring across the UK and the rest of the world.
Notable collaborations in performance include APOLLO5, The Monteverdi Choir, Collegium Vocale Gent, Sansara, Tenebrae, Ensemble La Sportelle, The Gabrieli Consort, St Martin’s Voices, The Sixteen, Kantos Chamber Choir, and the VOCES8 Foundation, BBC Daily Service Singers, Echo Vocal Ensemble, Corvus Consort, and the Mancunium Consort.
In 2023, Joseph co-founded The Mancunium Consort, an acclaimed a cappella ensemble based in Manchester. The group was created to widen the platform for choral music in the North of the UK and to share a broad repertoire of sacred and secular music with new audiences. Through performances that combine artistry, versatility, and a strong ensemble identity, The Mancunium Consort has helped bring fresh attention to choral singing while supporting talented young professional singers. Their work combines live performance with a strong online presence, helping them reach listeners beyond the concert hall. The group has also built a reputation for championing young professional singers and presenting music in an engaging, modern way.
Alongside his performing work, Joseph is deeply committed to music education and to creating meaningful musical experiences for singers of all ages and backgrounds. He has worked in education with leading organisations including the VOCES8 Foundation, The Sixteen, St Martin-in-the-Fields, and The Mancunium Consort, delivering workshops and projects that make high-quality vocal music engaging, accessible, and enjoyable.
As a teacher and workshop leader, Joseph brings the same care, energy, and musicality to educational work. Whether working with schools, choirs, individual singers, or community groups, he aims to create sessions that are welcoming, thoughtful, and inspiring, helping participants grow in confidence, technique, and enjoyment of singing. He has also run his own private music practice for the past five years, working successfully with students of all ages and abilities. His teaching has helped singers build confidence, strengthen vocal technique, and make steady progress in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Joseph’s approach is shaped not only by his professional experience, but also by a strong belief in the value of music education and its ability to open doors. He is especially interested in work that connects high-level performance with participation, encouraging singers and audiences alike to experience music as something vivid, shared, and human.
Whether on stage, in rehearsal, or in a workshop setting, Joseph brings warmth, versatility, and a collaborative spirit to his work. He welcomes enquiries about performances, lessons, workshops, and creative collaborations.
