Singing
Joseph’s ensemble singing began at school in Bradford, where he first developed a love of choral music before going on to sing with Bradford Cathedral Choir. Since then, he has built a varied career through regular recording and singing engagements with a wide range of professional, collegiate, cathedral, and chamber choirs. He is a regular member of APOLLO5, as well as co-founder and Director of The Mancunium Consort. His wider work includes recording and performing with The Monteverdi Choir, Collegium Vocale Gent, Sansara, the Chorus of the Age of Enlightenment, Tenebrae, The Gabrielli Consort, Echo Vocal Ensemble, Kantos Chamber Choir, Ensemble La Sportelle, Corvus Consort, the BBC Daily Service Singers, St Martin’s Voices, Philharmonia Voices, The Ulster Consort, Blackburn Cathedral Choir, Manchester Oratory, Coro Spezzato, Exodus, Manchester Diocese, and the RNCM Chamber Choir. This work has taken him into a wide variety of musical settings, from professional recording sessions and historically informed performance projects to cathedral music, chamber-choir concerts, and contemporary choral collaborations. In 2023, Joseph was a member of Genesis Sixteen, and in 2024 he was an apprentice with the Monteverdi Choir under Sir John Eliot Gardiner. These experiences further developed his understanding of ensemble singing, historically informed performance, and professional choral practice.
Alongside his work as a professional ensemble singer, Joseph maintains an active and varied career as a solo tenor, performing repertoire that spans the Baroque, Classical, and contemporary traditions, as well as major works from the choral repertoire. Recent solo engagements include the role of Acis in Handel’s Acis and Galatea with the Lewes Baroque Society in 2026, an appearance as tenor soloist with Manchester Camerata and Kantos Chamber Choir in 2025, and the tenor solo in Mozart’s Requiem at St Martin-in-the-Fields in 2024. He has also performed as tenor soloist in Mozart’s Requiem with Stafford Choral Society, as well as singing the role of Jonathan in Handel’s Saul with Hertford Choral Society in 2024. In 2023, Joseph performed as a rock singer soloist in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass with the Royal Northern College of Music at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. His previous engagements include the tenor solo in Handel’s Messiah with Walthamstow Choral Society in 2022.
Joseph’s wider choral work includes performances with a range of professional and amateur ensembles, including stepping out with The Carice Singers for their 2026 performance of Steve Martland’s music at Kings Place, as part of the venue’s Composer in Focus series. His current and forthcoming work includes a solo on the VOCES8 Scholars Ensemble’s forthcoming album of music by Swedish composer Mårten Jansson, recorded alongside the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet and conducted by Ragnar Bohlin. He also contributes solo work to the Mancunium Consort’s forthcoming album, Still Waters, due for release in September 2026 through VOCES8 Records.
